Lifestyle Change Program with Marcela



DAY/TIME: Mondays from 7:00 - 8:00 P.M.


The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) developed this wonderful Lifestyle Change Program. It is a year-long program designed for people with prediabetes. This program was developed following a comprehensive review of over 25 years of scientific research on strategies that have been shown to be effective in preventing type 2 diabetes. As a certified Lifestyle Coach, Iā€™m trained to lead groups of participants through this year-long program. Using an evidence-based curriculum, I will provide support and guidance to participants and help them develop and maintain the skills needed to adopt a healthy lifestyle.


The goal of this program is for participants to achieve moderate weight loss by eating well and being active. The goal is for participants to:

  • Lose at least 5 to 7 percent of their starting weight

  • Get at least 150 minutes of physical activity each week, at a moderate pace (approximately 20-25 minutes a day)

  • Decrease symptoms associated with prediabetes

  • Learn how to control blood glucose with diet and exercise

  • Improve total cholesterol, lower triglycerides and LDL levels

  • Improve mental function and memory

  • Learn strategies to live a healthy lifestyle

WHAT IS prediabetes?

Diabetes is a chronic disease that causes blood sugar levels to rise higher than normal. Diabetes affects more than 29 million people. A condition called prediabetes occurs when blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough for a type 2 diabetes diagnosis. More than 84 million Americans have prediabetes. Without lifestyle changes, people with prediabetes are very likely to progress to type 2 diabetes. The good news is that prediabetes can be reversed.

Each participant will receive materials to help support program goals. The group will meet as follows:

  • Once a week for four months (sessions 1 to 16)

  • Every other week for two months (sessions 17 to 20)

  • Once a month for six months (sessions 21 to 26)
